about our practice

Greetings and welcome to South Chesapeake Psychiatry (SCP), a new kind of Psychiatric practice built on 5 pillars that are all focused on you, the patient. My name is Justin Ray and am the owner. My colleague, and for all intents and purposes, my clinical partner is Amanda Snow. My one and only office manager is Christina Woolridge, though she likes to be called Christy and my Medical Secretary is Sarah Stankavich. Between the 4 of us, we have a combined 50 years of Psychiatric/Mental Health experience and have worked in almost every Psychiatric/Mental Health venue or setting there is. We have come together to form SCP because we have a different kind of vision on what Psychiatry/Mental Health could and should be.

When was the last time you were able to get somebody on the phone? When was the last time somebody returned your phone call promptly? When was the last time you had direct access to your provider outside of appointments? When was the last time you got a thorough explanation on different treatment options and why? When was the last time your Psychiatrist, Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant collaborated with your therapist or other members of your healthcare team?

Amanda and I have been specifically trained in Psychiatry and are both Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. A lot of current providers are Family Nurse Practitioners who have not been formerly trained in Psychiatry and not Board Certified. Same goes for many Physician Assistants, some of whom graduated from school with no Psychiatric training at all. As stated previously, this is not the case at SCP where you will find providers who have expertise, strive for excellence, are accountable in getting you better and will be available providing you quality product.

Our Belief – The 5 Pillars

Quality, Expertise, Accountability, Excellence and Availability are the 5 pillars of our practice.

All 5 work in a symbiotic relationship providing an overall much better patient experience than you will likely find anywhere else.

Quality – We will provide Quality of care versus quantity of care which is unfortunately what you will get at most offices and or with most providers with 10–15-minute appointments, very little education, very little discussion, often leading to sub-optimal outcomes.

Providing Quality care requires Expertise, Excellence, Accountability and Availability which is our mission to provide.

Expertise – We can provide greater Quality of care due to our combined expertise in treatment that is often unmatched by the majority of other providers and other offices. Check out our bios for further evidence. We will spend a lot of time educating you about disease processes and treatment options as well as linking you with other resources as necessary. We will ensure that all of your questions are answered, and you end up with a quality product.

Excellence
– We accept nothing short of Excellence from ourselves and members of our team and we expect to be held Accountable to that standard every day.

Accountability
– We are Accountable in getting you better by alleviating your symptoms through Expertise, Excellence and Availability, all of which lead to better quality care. It is our responsibility to be up to date on the latest treatment methods, modalities, and products, including the ability to offer them ourselves or link you to others who can.

Availability
– We will be Available! You will have full access to our staff and providers via phone and email. No more 24 to 48 hours to get back to you or nobody picking up the phone. It is our goal to reduce voicemails and pick up the phone on the first ring but all messages via phone or email will be returned the same day, likely within a few hours. You will also have direct access to your providers by both phone and email. However, this doesn’t take the place of an appointment which is necessary to meet standards of care, appropriately educate and get consent for treatment by explaining risks, benefits and alternatives.
